FAQ About Staff Contact

Mike and Bertie Eastman started the magazine in 1987. They knew that there were a lot of serious hunters with good hunting ethics who didn't have a forum to tell their stories. They also knew that these hunters made the best experts because of their experiences. Mike decided to start a magazine that would give these hunters an opportunity to share these hunting experiences with other hunters across the country and around the world.

Eastmans' Hunting Journal is based out West, right in the middle of big game hunting country. This allows the Eastman family and staff to spend most of the year out of doors, filming and hunting. In fact, we are within driving distance of four different wilderness areas.

In 2000, Eastmans' Bowhunting Journal was started. There were many people who were sending in bowhunting stories to the Eastmans' Hunting Journal, so Mike decided it was time to give bowhunters a magazine of their own. It is quickly gaining members every day, and has become one of the best bowhunting magazines on the market.

Today, the Eastmans' Hunting Journal has over 100,000 readers and is growing bigger every day. In response to their members' requests, they have also added a Hunter's Gift Guide with over 70 different products for the hunter.

For six generations, the Eastman family has lived out west. The first Eastman ancestors came out in 1856. So Mike and his son, Guy, did not have to move there to become western trophy hunting authorities. They spend most of their time hunting, filming, and living in the out of doors.

In 1999, Mike's love for outdoor filming evolved into a series on the Outdoor Channel called Eastmans' Hunting Journal. Now going into its eighth season, the Eastmans' Hunting Journal has firmly established itself as the favored television show of hard-core hunters. Serious sportsmen, interested in authentic Western rifle and bowhunting, have embraced these weekly chronicles brought to the small screen by the Eastman family.

Mike's father, Gordon Eastman, was a pioneer of wildlife filming and guiding in Alaska in the mid-1950's. Guy grew up under his grandfather's wing, learning to film as a 14-year old boy. He is now carrying on the tradition of hunting and wildlife filming. Guy is now very involved in helping Mike make videos and television shows for the Outdoor Channel.

The Eastman family has always believed in ethical hunting. Their philosophy has always been rooted in the proud tradition of fair chase. They have established themselves as the authorities on western big game hunting.
