With all the time we spent sizing up this trophy, I knew this was the bull I wanted and told Steve that no other bull would do! Steve asked me if I knew what my chances were of taking this one bull. He also asked if I was willing to eat my tag to do it. I simply replied “Yes,” and smiled. The alarm went off very early the next morning and I sprang right out of bed because I was excited to see what the first day of the season had in store. The echoes of bulls in the early morning light surrounded us and we knew we were in the right place. Soon some cows and calves came out of the trees in a small opening with the enormous bull bringing up the tail. I closed the distance to 75 yards and set up while Steve hung back to give some soft cow calls. The bull heard the cow calls coming from behind me and decided to investigate. I could only catch glimpses of him coming back to the opening. My heart began to pound rapidly and I thought to myself, is this really happening so quickly?
