When you draw a limited entry tag such as elk or antelope in Arizona, the first decision is whether to hire a guide or do it yourself. Some who draw the tags cannot afford a guide, so the decision is simple. Others draw the tag and have the financial means but not the time to scout, so they hire a guide. The decision was easy for me since I had the time and I had a summer home 45 miles from my unit. No offense to those who hire guides, but I wanted to enjoy the whole hunt experience, much as I did in 2011 on my DIY Rocky Mountain sheep hunt (EHJ 130, May 2012 ). The best part of these hunts is seeing country I have never seen before and witnessing the multitude of nice bull elk and lots of antelope. I spent 25 days scouting and had almost as much fun as I did on my sheep hunt.
