The best part part about him is the truck isn't too far away! Well, maybe not the best part but definitely a plus. Was this DIY public land?

Congrats to the hunter, from the looks of the picture, they didn't have to take him far to get him to the truck.

You're welcome :)

The bull was on private. Easiest "pack out" of my life!

Congrats to your friend on an awesome bull!

I don't think there is anything strange about the country, elk live in everything from desert sagebrush flats to eastern deciduous forests to the Pacific coast to Rocky Mountain coniferous forests, above timberline and pretty much anything in between.

I am aware of the wide variety of elk habitat, it just happens that my experiences elk hunting have included climbing up and down steep mountains, not hunting alfalfa fields on private ground.

This is why I don't like this forum sometimes. There is more than one way to skin a cat. Everybodies different

I knew it was only a matter of time before a comment like that was posted.

If it's my comment you're talking about, I'm sorry. It was not meant to diminish his trophy or raise any hackles. I would jump at the opportunity to hunt elk in that kind of environment, and certainly do not begrudge anybody who does.
