View Full Version : Exited about my first WY hunt
I'm pretty excited, after 26 years of my out of state trips being to Colorado, finally going some place new (to me) but... I didn't realize how hard it would be to decide where to use our max points at. When they stated the PP sytem a few years back we had to start sending in. We've seen what the draw system has done for the quality of deer in CO. and knew it would only help in the same way in WY. Anyway my buddy and I decided we wanted to use them this year after trying for area 100 last year and seeing this year it was something crazy like a 3% chance. So after reading, comparing, google earthing, and second guessing we settled on taking a chance on a newly created limited area. We hope we made a good choice and get drawn, since there is no application history we can't be 100% sure. I had forgotten about the excitment of the unknown and this is the most excited I've been in years about going (and it's only March:rolleyes:) and had to share.
Anyone else have butterflies about their hunt this year??
Myself and two buddies are planning to do a combo deer and antelope hunt this fall. I'm about to drive myself crazy trying to decide which units to put in for. This will be our first western hunt, I can't wait till october.
I was reading your post and saw you said area 100. That unit isn't limited quota did you mean 101 or 102?
Congrats on your first western hunt, I think you will enjoy it. The hunting is pretty good just about everywhere so I'm thinking none of the blue or green areas will dissapoint.
Sorry about the area 100, I think 102, it was the one with the fewest tags and we had max point and was hoping for a little lightning. We thought we had this year figured out and then met today and found the deer density was low in that area. After about 4 more hours we made the best choice we could with the info we had and went for it. We also put in for Antelope, doesn't that make it even more fun?

Out of state hunts are always fun and the anticipation is more than half the fun. I'm looking at some out of state archery hunts for CO, but I also have a fairly good chance of drawing out for my "once in a lifetime" moose tag here in UT this year. Good luck on the draw and if you do draw...please make sure you post pictures and a story with them.
I hear you on that, the hunt is more like work, although fun work I would like to go to every day. lol Good luck on your CO Archery draw, I'm going to have to do it once before I get too old. I've hunted archery in CA almost all the time since I was young, so out of state is the chance to reach out a little. I'll keep an eye out for your Moose story Sharp if you draw as well, hope you get that tag.
