So I was just reading through the NV reg's and to me, it looks like if you draw and harvest a bull elk, you cannot apply for elk again for 10 years. Am I reading that right? Looks the same for sheep and mountain goats which I can understand but elk too?

Correct. But only if you harvest. If unsuccessful in the field its 5 years before you can try again

Nevada has a lot of folks applying for those tags.

How do elk tags work in ND?

Yep your correct. 5 years for Antelope too.

Wowza, so probably at least 10 years to draw a tag, a 10 year wait period, then probably 15 years or so to draw another one....So unless a guy gets really lucky, a NV elk tag is dang near a once-in-a-lifetime tag. Or maybe twice in a lifetime. That sucks...

Edelweiss- ND elk tags are for residents only. That goes for sheep and moose too. Well unless you want to pony up about 40k for the sheep auction tag...

Ya that's kinda how I see it too. I drew my Elk in 2006. Took 10 points. I know a guy with 20 points and drew 3 years ago.

These tags are so hard to get. I'm hoping to draw an elk, sheep, or goat tag this year because I'm going to not want to enter the non resident pool!

So what are your guys' strategy? Put in for the really tough tags and try to pull one awesome tag, or try to draw anything and maybe get 2 in your lifetime?

I wish every state would do residents only on sheep, moose and goats. Take some of the prestige away from them.

Put in for everything! Can't play if you don't put in!

Wow! 20 years for a elk tag. I hope I have a little more luck than that

Always have luck! You just have to have good luck instead of bad luck! I figure me being young, if I stayed in Nevada, I would draw twice, possibly three times in my life.

My dad drew with 18 points. I drew with 3. The 10 year waiting period is a bit extreme I.m.o (probably due to my lack of patience)

Ya I wish it wasn't so long but it's for the management of trophy bulls. Trust me there should be any problum to find a a good 350" bull if you draw in Nv. We saw 10-15 bulls every day from 300"-370" and most were 340"-350"

I'd rather kill two 350+ bulls in my life than 4 280 bulls. Plus, that's why we have OTC states!

I agree Dr.

I'd have to agree too

I'd rather hunt than wait 10 years for a tag. Especially after a lifetime of being deployed to the warzone during hunting season. Building points for my upcoming retirement date. And we will live in a OTC state.
