Been thinking of doing a broadhead test for EBJ. I have a good list going right now of potential heads to test. What are some thoughts on heads you would like to see in the mix? Planning on testing both fixed and mechanicals.

We cannot use mechanicals in Oregon, so some info on fixed heads would be great!

I would like to see some of the 2-blade Magnus heads in the lineup. I have been wondering about them for a while now.

Vpa terminators. I used them this year with good results.

Test some Rage mechanicals. As much as all the shows push them, I secretly hope they aren't any good. ;)

G5 Montec of course.

I'd like to know as well which would be good for elk and which might be better for deer/antelope. I've always heard that you need a cut on contact for something as big as an elk so a test showing if that's true would be nice.

Add some shuttle T locks in there for the test.

I would like to see the Magnus Snuffer and how it compares to some of the other highly marketed broadheads. Sounds like fun!

I use the G5 Montec. I would like to see how they stack up against some of the other broadheads on the market. It seems to be a very durable piece of gear. One thing I have noticed is the noise they make flying through the air. They make a good deal more noise than other blade as they zip through the air.

I have also noticed that noise when shooting them, but I mic'd up a camera down range and couldn't tell much difference when compared to field points while being on the "receiving" end.

Testing of the these Broadheads would be nice.

1. Rage 125 grain
2. Steelforce Phathead 100 and 125 grain
3. Steelforce Phathead Featherdusters 125 grain(These were known as the Phathead Talon prior to 2011)

Thanks

I was thinking the exact same thing! :)

Nate see if you can get your hands on some of Rusty Ulmer's Heads. I'd like to know more about them. Also run the Trophy Taker Terrminal T-Lock's through the ringer.

I recently switched from a Rage 3-blade to the Meat Seekers based on a recommendation. I'd like to see how they perform if you do a test on mechanicals.

Some Grim Reapers would be great to see in the test. I have never personally tried them but heard good things and would be interested in seeing how they perform/compare to fixed and other mechanicals.

I would like to see some comparisons of 2 blade vs. 3 blade vs. 4 blade of different broadheads.

I would like to see the following:

FIXED BLADE
--Shuttle Terminals (what I currently use and like)
--Montec CS (ability to get sharp compared to original)
MECHANICAL
--2-blade Rage (are they up to the hype)
--G5 tekan (heard some not so good things on them)
--Schwacker (spelling?) seems like a dumb name, but are they good?

Slick Trick Magnum 100gr.

Have worked well for me. Don't have experience with anything different. They tuned great in my bow. Guess I'm looking for a test that doesn't include shooting into a 100 gallon steel drum. I don't understand way that is significant. Real hunting situations would be great.

X4 on the Slick tricks to be added to your test. It is also my opinion and an opinion only, but I believe a fair amount of hunters use a mechanical head because they dont have a properly tuned bow resulting in poor Fixed BH flight. Would you be able to add a paragraph or two on the importance of properly tuning your bow and BH's.

Another vote G5 Montec CS.
I would also like to see the Magnus Buzzcut 4-blade as it looks like the best option for my wife and others with low poundage draws on elk and larger animals.

Last year I used the G5 Striker and was impressed with a quick, clean kill. But, I would still like to see how they stack up. Rage in the cage is all the RAGE lately, so let's see how they stack up as well.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback. Looks like my test list is aligning with what you guys want to see but I did add a couple more heads that weren't on my list from reading the posts on here.

Nate,

With it being March Madness and all, why don't you hold a tournament? By that, I mean pick out several criteria with a weighted scale. Seed one side of the bracket with fixed blades and the other side with mechanicals. Run the broadheads through a first round of tests and advance half the field to the next tests. So on and so forth until you have a championship between fixed and mechanicals.

Ok, I've just melded my Sportscenter addiction with my Redneck TV addiction and posted it on an internet forum. My wife would be so proud.

I took my first archery elk last year with G5 T3 broadheads. I drew a great Wyoming elk tag and was nervous hearing about failures in the field from failures with mechanicals. After rifle hunting all my life I could not believe the blood trail from those broadheads. I didn't make a great shot and had to track the bull about a 1/4 mile, but you could tell everytime he stopped it looked like Friday the 13th. For all the advantages of a mechanical, and my personal experience, I can't see hunting with a fixed broadhead.

Wac'em Exits work well. They do exactly as they are named, no checkin in just checkin out. But Brittle.
Nate,
How about aftershockarchery.com their line up has some nice ones. I personally use the Maniacs.

I like the idea of Dryflyguy. Use the hooter shooter and weed out the ones that just dont perform.
No tuning allowed on the head, only right out of the box performance!!!!

THEBUGLER,
I shot a bear with magnus stingers 125 gr. and did not go 30 yards awsome broadhead but could not get them to fly through a different bow and forgot about them. Stingers are close to buzzcut same general design.

I would like to see how a some the higher end nock off cabelas or bass pro brands compare to their more expensive competitors. Especially the Cabelas FX-3's compared to the Muzzy's in similar style.

+1 I just started bow hunting and it would be nice to see how some of the budget stuff compares. My wife is starting to add up stuff in her head and I know I'm reaching the boiling point so a less expensive product that performs well would rank higher on my list than an expensive product that performs great.

I have been putting the VPA Terminators to my own tests, but would like to also hear your results on them. I have no need for mech. since they are illegal where I hunt.

I've also found the VPA Terminator to be the ultimate broadhead. You can't argue with a 3 blade cut on contact design, and VPA makes them CNC machined from solid steel. Its the toughest head I've ever tested, but I'd like to see your results too.

I have also noticed that noise when shooting them, but I mic'd up a camera down range and couldn't tell much difference when compared to field points while being on the "receiving" end.

I've done this as well. I set up a video camera downrange and shot right over the top of it. I couldn't tell the difference between field points, Rage, Montec, and Tekan IIs. It seems the vanes make the majority of the noise.
