Unit 61 Elk 1st Season Oct 13- Oct 17

Heading up in August to do some scouting... have 2 good tags for elk this year!! NM Valle Vidal and CO unit 61. Any advice and or pointers on where to start would be appreciated.

Nice tag!! I'm planning to hunt muzzleloader there for elk in two years.

I was a little picky in Colorado, passed on two smaller 6 pts, looking for something in the 330 class. Also had a bear tag in my pocket, and saw a huge black bear at less than 20 yards for a second and he vanished in the oak brush. NM was better to me, lots of elk and a few very nice ones.

Sure is, he was successful in NM and unsuccessful in CO.
