Is he a fringe/hybrid mulie blacktail?

He's a nice looking deer, just coloration is different than I have seen.

Nice buck man. I was in D8 this weekend checking out the area for the first time. Definitely alot of deer there just have to put the time in. Public land is all about doing your homework.

Great job

Yes, he was taken in a cross breed area. He has more blacktail characteristics than mule deer though.

Here's another pic.

Check out some of the bucks on my Profile....most were taken in California D Zones....D7.

Impressive CC... I grew up in D7 and always heard about the good old days. Nice pics. You don't see pics like that anymore from that country.

i'm going back into D7 backcountry again in Sept with family, we'll see how it is now. Havn't been there for 8 years.

Not sure if you were the one I told, but anyway, my Grandpa was born in Stevensville. My GG Grandmother was a Metcalf, Lee Metcalf (former US Senator from Montana) was my Dad's cousin. We almost retired there, but my wife said it was too cold in the winter...ha. Gramps always said it was the banana belt of Montana! Right now I'm looking at 6" of snow still on the ground....go figure.

the high d-zones are so much fun. The scenery is awesome, the people tend to thin out the farther back in you go. I'm going to hit d5 and d6 again this season. Hopefully wait out for something bigger, well see.
