I applied 2 years ago and got the combo elk/deer and not the LE. I did nothing last year and according to the nice lady i talked to last year from Montana FW that is ok. but i would have to apply this year so i dont loose my points
. So i was wondering is there any different draw odds if i went jsut for the elk tag and not the combo?

The odds are better for the combo, in fact there were quite a few combos left over last year.

BB,

On the nr pp that you can buy for $50, can you keep buying them & building up? Or do you have to apply every other year to maintain them?

It is my understanding that buying counts as applying.

Thanks matt, knowing there are different draw odds between the two ill have to take a closer look. Trying to save some gas money to get out there. Elk is the prize -deer would just be just getting in the way :)

I believe the elk combo and big game combo have the same odds, but the deer combo has worse odds than both the elk combo/big game combo.

I went with the elk combo instead of the big game combo last year and drew, wanted to save some $$ and the deer tag was just a chance tag before when I had the big game combo and barely saw any deer let alone shooter bucks.

with the price increase, less you know an area has deer or you plan to really go after deer and elk, I'd just get the elk combo and save $150 or whatever.

the $50 points aren't really worth it IMO, I'd apply every other year or so for those, but if they allow you to buy/build points for the limited entry points for $20 that makes sense, the points you really want/need are the special permit/limited entry areas.

General tags for elk/big game combo have been near 100% the last couple years.
