Unfortunately, there are no points for the desert Sheep tags, so won't know until the results are posted.:(

You all really need to stop calling it the back door. The back door was a sneaky way to see if you got a tag. It never showed points, but it would tell if you got the tag, and it would tell you early, before it was released to the public.

What you're looking at now was put up by the DOW, and anybody can see it. Which was the point of it. I believe the DOW shut down the back door, so it can't be seen anymore. As an example. You might be able to see if you got a deer tag a week earlier than it was released to the public. There was a code that you needed to figure out, but it wasn't hard.

Ya back door is probably isn't the correct term. Wow I'm sitting here thinking of all the bad stuff I could finish this post with, butt I can't come up with anything clean. Jeez

I just checked the back door. It's not showing anything for me except the applications. Later it will show the tag, or if it shows nothing it means no tag. It did this early in the past, but now it doesn't do that until it's a public release.

The DOW caught on to us.

You have to think more positive.

I'm very positive, but that's really all I applied for.

Any idea when refund checks will be issued? Like a few weeks after drawing results? All the states run together, I can't remember.

You just applied for a point? Why not apply for something you want? You'll still get the point if you fail, but at least you have a shot at something. Sometimes you get lucky.

I'm guessing the points only option is more popular with non-residents due to the costs of a trip (hotels, gas, restaurants, etc) and the amount of vacation that can be taken. I apply for points often when I know I can make the trip out west or have figured I'm going to draw a tag based on odds. I don't have the money or vacation to say hunt Moose in Idaho, and then Mule deer in Colorado.

For me it's being really picky about the unit.

Old Hunter
05-08-2013, 06:18 PM
For me, it's hunting every year on my home unit. Don't ask me how pissed I get when a non res gets it, and I don't.

packmule
05-08-2013, 06:29 PM
I would imagine it's infuriating. I can't imagine what it would be like to not be able to hunt the whitetails I cater to every year on our place.

Old Hunter
05-08-2013, 07:17 PM
Yes, it's very frustrating. Someone from out of state can build up points while hunting at home. I can't do that. I only hunt here. If I want points. I have to skip hunting. It doesn't seem right. I live here so I can hunt.

Colorado Cowboy
05-08-2013, 08:28 PM
There are 5 or 6 units down here where I live. I can usually draw one of them even if it is a 2nd choice. Usually if I don't get my first choice, I can get another unit thats close and then I get a point too. The next year I usually draw where I want.

Increasing the LO vouchers to 20% probably didn't help the percentage breakdown for resident to NR licenses. As far as deer goes, no OTC units means there's not many options. When some 4th seasons open back up you're going to see some folks getting out of the point game.

Colorado Cowboy: Just how far SW are you, I've got some family that live outside of Cortez.

Colorado Cowboy

I live half way between Cortez and Dolores....about 4 miles from each one.

As of this post no results on the state webpage yet.

I live here so I can hunt. OH, I have built up almost enough points to draw any elk tag I want. And I have also taken several elk while I have been building points. The same goes for deer. You may not be able to hunt same unit every year but you can hunt every year. You might not be able in your back yard. You may have to change up what weapon you use and the gender but this state has many possibilities for residents to hunt every year and still build points for future hunts.

You don't know all the details. My only option is to hunt my unit.

Had a great experience, and took a nice bull. I attached the link from my post about the hunt. Hopefully I did it right.

Well, i'd have to get an OTC elk tag, and I can do that right before the 2nd season. I'll wait and see how the deer hunt goes, and how the weather is. I'll need to go over Cottonwood Pass to hunt elk. If it's not closed from snow, and looks like it's will be open for 2nd season. I'll decide then. Lugging out another elk on my back alone is not something I look forward to. If I have a good hunt for a buck. I may skip the elk this year.

No information showing in the system for my grandsons youth cow elk draw so I called DOW, he is still in the draw. If I checked it right his odds are 73% positive of drawing a tag. Looks like I will have to wait until the 24th to know, still I will check each day.

Old Hunter
05-13-2013, 08:35 AM
Elk will show before the 24th. Just like all the other tags showed early. Deer was suppose to be on the 17th, and it showed on the 10th.

This is my first year applying, so I don't have any preference pts. I don't see any new pref pts for deer, so that means I got the tag, right?

If you prefer to hunt with a rifle, I have hard that Colorado will let you exchange the tag for a rifle tag.

Yep, call Division of Wildlife. I read an article recently about someone who did that. The drawing for moose in Colorado is to allocate a certain number of tags regardless of weapon type used.

Old Hunter
05-14-2013, 01:43 PM
Wish we could do that with deer and elk.

I am going to have to think about that. I think ML season might be better as there will be less competition. Thanks for the heads up though. It would save me having to buy an ML though.....I'll have to think about it.
