Are you concerned that you don't have enough posts, and the other member's will think you are a newbie. Well now we have just what you need, the "Official Post Padding Thread".

Feel free to post about anything or everything totally random, post random numbers and characters, post your children's quiz grades, post about brushing your teeth, post about how you trim your nose hairs, it does not matter! Just boost the numbers of posts that you have. You too can go from hardly any posts to 100, 200 posts or more in no time.

You may think a pad posting thread like this would cost you $129.99 or even $159.99, but you can have it for only 48 monthly payments of only $9.99, yes only 48 monthly payments of $9.99! And that's not all, if you act now, for a limited time it is absolutely free.

Just think, when you reach that prestigious 1000 post level, people will look at you think you too actually know something about hunting and the outdoors even though you have no clue whatsoever!

DISCLAIMER: This thread may irritate a few of our more grumpy members, who don't approve of having fun, however if and when they post their complains, they can be officially known as a post padder as well ;)

Warning: Excessive use of this thread may cause dizziness, anorexia, blindness, insanity, baldness, obesity, incontinence, diarrhea, sleep deprivation, infertility, cancer, the jitters, unreasonable boldness in grizzly country, make you think you can fly, and/or constipation.

"poors man elk hunt" I can tell you that it is by far way cheaper than Elk hunting but not near as challenging or as exciting!!

I have the Lowa Tibet GTX boots. I have only put about 20 miles on them but have not had any issues with break in. Very comfortable no hot spots so far. I have been wearing a medium weight CoolMax sock with them. I also put in the Lanthrop Senergy gel Insole. The new Tibets are a little different than the older boot. I really like the newer I-lock lacing system really locks the lower lacing before the ankle so the lacing doesn't slip any while lacing the upper part of the boot. It is also easy to release when removing the boot. I really thought they would require a break in but so far they haven't needed a thing. Next week I will probably throw on a pack and see how they do. I think the are designed for 50+ lb packs, which we all hope we will need at the end of the day! They are a little heavier than I am used to but the comfort makes up for the little extra weight.

Nice report 25C. That is the exact Lowa boot I have here (the new 2013 model). I ordered two sizes from Zappos to try out the fit. The lacing system is great and I like how you can lock the tongue position too. I've been a bit concerned about the weight, though they are lighter than my old Meindls and about the same as my Kennetreks (that tear up my heals). I have been doing more and more early season hunting in light weight hikers, but I often trash these out in a few weeks of hard hunting.

That was my problem going through a pair of boots every two years. I like the new insoles better than the stock insoles they seem to lock my feet in place a little better. Oh yea I forgot about the tongue lock. I have been doing the last lace under the tongue lock to keep it from shifting down and to the side. I ordered mine the same as my foot size and they were a perfect fit. In fact a medium weight sock and boot liner really feel good in this boot. I imagine you would get the same results with just one pair of heavy socks and no liner.
I also like the fact that they are uninsulated as this is a boot I will where pretty much all of the early season hunts. Ankle support feels good as well and they come up high enough in the back so they don't irritate the achille area above the heel.

Don't quote me, but I recall it was $13K total to the outfitter. It was like $9K for the hunt, and a $4K trophy fee. I got flown into another area for my first 6 point elk for another $1K.

One thing I recommend to younger guys is to buy a house you can afford and pay it off. A 15 year loan is not that terribly much more than a 30 year loan. I got a fixer-upper on the river, remodeled it and landscaped it myself (sweat equity) and paid it off in 8 years. When you no longer have a house payment going out it totally frees up your lifestyle.

I think I have it all figured out but you never know. I am in process of buying our retirement home in the mountains in Ca. My Co. is thriving and we blow the doors off of our business goals each year. The plan I am in rite I will be semi retired in 5 years with everything I own except my current home paid off. In the next 5 I will have my retirement home paid off. At that 10 year mark we will move to our retirement home with full bennys from UPS (where the wife works) and a comfortable living from my Co. until I turn 65. I am 42 now. I then will have the resources to take those nice full guided hunts with the wife and fallow our kids around and drive them nuts like they have done to us for so many years! Hahhahha.

I have to agree with UH you need to plan ahead and get the things you need not so much as to what you want. With good financial planning you can do it all even with not a lot of income.

My fingers are crossed as well! Putting our current investment home on the market in less than a week. Last appraisal we are up 200k with no comps in the area. The market is lacking homes at the moment and the stars are aligned for my dreams to come true. Were 26 and 25. Have paid off her grad school cash and should be able to make enough on this home to buy a very nice smaller home with lil to no mortgage. Hopefully all goes well and this transition is smooth and easy. We are ecstatic to move on to a hope of freedom. This home has been a nightmare. But with the minimal money and sweat that I can pyle into it it has paid off handsomely. Hopefully it goes quick!!

So, you're saying that I shouldn't just bank on social security to retire on?

I agree with you on the IRA, compound interest is a beautiful thing. Every once in a while, I consider throwing a bunch of money towards my house, and try to pay it off early, but when I get to thinking about it, I just go buy a rental house instead.

Just outside the cabin we have an old rock pit that has a concrete bowl. Works great as a fish cleaning station. Not sure what its intention was when it started life. But since I was my daughters size at that very location that has been its intended use.

Anyone get the new EHJ? Just wondering what people thought. 14 hunts featured 9 of them guided or private property. Can't wait for the public land DIY issue.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who noticed... The DIY aspect is what drew me to Eastmans in the first place. Without it, it's just another trophy hunting magazine. I hope they stick to more DIY hunts, and don't cave to the guided hunts just because they produce more and bigger trophies.

I'm with you CoHi, I was somewhat dissapointed with last months EBJ cover story. I started to read it but about 2 paragraphs into it I realized, I can't relate. When I opened the last issue of EHJ I was surprised to se so many stories that were either guided or private land or both. Come on boys, lets get back to where it started!

So what do you do with them, anyways?

I don't have livestock, we don't have wolves, I don't live in a area where the coyote populations are big enough to be a nuisance and I'm not going to eat one, so I've had no reason to hunt them.

I understand the need to deal with nuisance and threat animals and the need to control the populations.

What makes me curious is when I see a comment like yours or the other day when I saw a truck from Idaho with a "Smoke a pack a day" sticker. Makes it seem like coyotes and wolves in general are just pests that need to be eradicated.

It's just me mulling it over for my personal satisfaction, so I'm not looking to get in on the deabte about whether to hunt them or not, just curious to hear a view from that side.

How i bid a job
#1 pick up the plans close your eyes and weigh them come up with a number $----
#2 open the plans to see where the job is at if close to home if so deduct by 3% $----
#3 pain in the ass factor add 15% if the job is a pain in the ass deduct 2% if not $---
#4 will the job mess with my hunting plans if so add 20% $---- (or just trash the job)
#5 pick out one item from your want list and add it to the bid ( new bow) $---
#6 add for profit ok forget about that----------------
grand total $-------
cut in half $--------

I've been there, it's not fun. Around here if you cover your costs your way out of the ball park. Before we pulled out of the excavation market that's where jobs were landing. Guys were bidding at 30% below our hard cost, we couldn't buy a job. It's still happening from what I hear, its unbelievable that those guys are still in business.

Vegas is probably the worst. We cant compete with non union. Weve had a couple small ones that were t&m and people didnt mind working for me. But other than that its blow and go with no happy endings.

Need a hand with a legal script to cover eastmans from liability on a bad transaction? Or are they against the chance that members may not have the current unity that exists now? Or is it a sponsor issue?

Everyone I kill is 1 less that can kill my girlfriends sheep or my calves. We have lost a few to coyotes. This is mostly farm country here so they dont cause most people around here a problem but still the populations need to be controlled. They kill lots of fawnes too. I agree that its good to have a few to keep the mice and gophers under control but if there are tomany they cause problems and kill things I dont want killed so I shoot everyone I can!

Typically when you find a dead one missing an ear its because the state has issued a bounty. Shoot a yote and send in the ear. Anywhere from 25-50 bucks to control the population.

I wish Oregon had a bounty on them damn coyotes, I think the kill alot more deer than people realize. I shoot them when ever I see them. I miss alot more than I hit, them little bastards are hard to hit when they are on a dead run! I've ony killed a couple on the run. I missed one the other day right by the house, its been pestering the neigbor goats lately. I haven't seen it since I shot at , maybe I gut shot it??

Gotcha, makes sense. And thanks Hardstalk.

We have them all over the place here, but there aren't a lot of them. I guess the desert itself is pretty effective at controlling the population.

Cat kills will be buried in the brush? Coyote kills will be out in the open? is that right, or do cat kills get drug out afterwards? I had 2 deer remains within 10 ft of eachother last spring, and they were out in the open. I have never seen a big cat at my house, but i know they are there somewhere. I do have plenty of coyotes on the game cam that is 100yds below the house.

I wish WA had a bounty too, but really Im happy just killing them:) They sure are hard to hit on the run. I missed 1 I ran down on the snowmobile this winter but I think that was mostly because I was laughing to hard to shoot!!!;) Was alot of fun anyways!!! I generally dont shoot unless Im pretty confident in the shot because they get educated pretty fast if you miss them. I get a few off the tractor too. They come around looking for mice and gophers that get dug up and are usually not to scared of it. I load the gun, open the cab door, hit the clutch at full throttle and try to shoot before they realize I stopped and take off. Its usually good for 2 or 3 a year!

I've got the Green Mountain Grill. I love it too. What I liked about the Green Mountain is that it has a digital temp controller, and you can set your temp in 5 increments. It goes down to 150F for smoking fish, and up to 500F for steaks. Awesome grill.
