I haven't had a Nevada deer tag in 18 years, so I have already exceeded the 6000 day quota...what's up with that!

Maybe 7,000 is the lucky number. 6,999 today! I drew 2 tags out of nowhere last year, neither was in NV, but I figure I used up my luck for a few years. All I know is someday I will draw and I have other places to hunt where tags are easy to get until I do!

My mom said to put it as my last choice I looked. I put in for 012,014 as the odds were 2:1. And couldn't pull it. So I got this tag again. It's a tag but I have to be able to kill one right? For 3 years I have hunted it! Lol

Went up last weekend and set my blind, was out in the middle of the day so I didn't see any lopers. Pretty dry in Northern NV this year, saw some holes that usually are good and full bare as a bone. Will be back in a couple of weeks to scout.

I'm sure it's not the spark you were looking for on here feather but that's about as exciting as it gets for now...

Monsoons are a coming! It will be while your sitting in your blind :) happened to me last year. Had a natural one built. Day before season opened it started pouring. Water galore! Blind was useless :(

Sounds about right. I got the spot I wanted now I sit back and wait for something to f*#k it up. I can take rain, that way I dont have to worry about me showing up Aug 1 to a dry hole. I'm more worried about the cows or another hunter tearing it down.

I had a friend out there that killed a big boy in 09. But he passed away last fall. He always wanted me to hunt that unit and see me take a pronghorn with my bow. But he didn't get to see it.

Story on that buck.

I got to a new waterhole on the last day and had to set up my blind. As I approached it at 6:00 am this buck and two does and a fawn were about 500 yards away and walking away from it. I'm guessing they had either just drank or were in the area of the waterhole all night long. I set up my Primos Double Bull blind as fast as I could with them only 500-600 yards away. Then never saw me, which is amazing. Once I got into the blind I noticed they were heading out, but I knew based on how hot and dry it was and how often that buck was pissing (typical pronghorn territorial behavior...peeing every 5 minutes) he'd be back at some point that day.

Well he made it back, but I had to set there for 14 hours. When he came in he approached my blind and crossed right in front of me at 7 yards. I made the faintest squeak to get him to stop and he bolted to 21 yards. He was quartering to me and I hate that shot, but I released and drove a G5 Montec as deep as I could. He ran quite a ways (400 yards), but we recovered him and was happy to have him after sitting in a blind for 10-14 hours every day for 8 days straight.

I was really shocked at how spooky these bucks were of the blinds. This buck had no clue my blind was there due to junipers, but in most every other spot we hunted they would not make the last 100 yards. We had another buddy in the eastern part of NV and he set his blind up 10 yards from a pond and killed a buck. Last year in WY we sat up next to a waterhole without a blind and after we shot two bucks we had to chase off the other ones. This pict is 20 mins after we shot two bucks! They wouldn't leave and kept coming in. I think this was happening because we found a secluded water hole and these lopes rarely if ever see anyone.

5796

Here's a couple of the previous blind set-ups in NV that spooked the lopes.

Antelope are nervous by nature, anything new or out of place will get there attention in a hurry. My first choice of blinds is a "semi natural pit blind" like the one shown. These blinds are there all year long and there is nothing new or out of place as far as the animals are concerned. In the second pic you can see the blind in the background.

I will get a bonus point and will be able to hopefully draw a northern washoe/ lovelock unit in the next couple years here the hunting should be better. And that the pronghorn live on public land!

Good luck to all the hunters!

Dont get discouraged vlvt! Keep the tag and pound the flats. Theres a good buck in there. You've seen a few over the years. Get away from the fields and all the antelope live on public. Dont even look at the fields! Have you asked any of the landowners if you can hunt their pivots? Most dont care for the antelope. Now if its a bruiser like this 6058 someone probably has it named and their wife likes to look at it in the mornings. But most ranchers dont get attached to antelope.

I asked the landowners but they are all owned by the same corporation that allows no hunters. 1 rancher told me in 09 (2 years before I had the 1st tag) he lets archers hunt the ranch. I would rather take a full week hunting deer than 4 days pronghorn and 3 deer. It's the best option for me to turn in the tag and have a successful deer hunt.

Omg! I hunted last Thursday (first day) missed my first antelope while sitting in a blind over water (perfect setup). Today I go back out to another area find a nice buck bedded stalk/low crawl to 50 yards, set up decoy....buck comes in to about 32 yards, I missed again. I'm using a Chuck Adams range finder been shooting my bow rigorously since February with 900 arrows by last count beginning of July. What's the matter with me or are they literally that small? Help....I'm completely beside myself right now!
