thanks! oh yeah, it scored 333.4... u can tell from the vegetation that it wasnt in the mountainous areas but instead in the flat lands, where no one would think to look.

where no one would think to look.

Unless you grew up in the area. It's amazing watching an entire herd of elk disappear in a sagebrush draw. I don't even apply for that area anymore since the odds are so low. Maybe I'll start.

Looks like the bull I passed on. Bet I might be able to tell you were he was. I spent a month total out there. Ended up with a decent bull. No offense but I don't think thats a 333 bull. Mine was 315. But again it could be. I thought mine was 330 when I pulled the trigger. Nice bull. Awesome experience I had out there the last two years.

He was measured at the taxidermist by an official measurer... so unless he was lying to me, he said that he mass sure helped, and if he had better backs he wouldve went 360.... just curious, where do you think we were? draw odds are like 3%... I always put her in for hard to draw areas with bulls so shes atleast successful. thanks everyone

I'm not trying to discredit a nice bull by the way just making that clear. I drew that tag last year and this year. Spent 1 month out there bow hunting and rifle this year. The quality of bulls was much better. We seen well over 250 bulls. The one I shot was the largest I seen besides a bull during archery. I have been all over the unit. What were the measurements of the inside spread and the main beams? Mabye it's the pic. He looks like a 5by5 with a kicker off one side "deduction". Rule of thumb is if you can get 200" out of the main beams and width it's a 350 bull. Hard to get that out of a 5 point regardless of mass. Awesome bull and congrats. The backs on all the bulls out there I seen are weak. I passed a bull identical to this down on the flats yo the east of steamboat. Those elk can travel well over 10 miles in a day though.

thats exactly where we were, you know the Oregon Buttes road when you go way back and there is that massive canyon to the left? they wwere in some breaks right at the very end

Obviously if you thought your elk was 330 and it ended up being 315 then you don't have the grounds to critique other people's elk. It might be 333, it might not. It's not that difficult to be a little off on each measurement and what you think is a 320 is a 300.

Great bull, and glad it was a good hunt! It looks totally crazy to see that scenery behind a down bull. The only place I have ever hunted elk is in the southwest corner of Colorado, I think I may need to branch out more!

I put her in for hard draws and the lucky girl seems to always get them, it was 2-3% draw odds.... give it a try. Thanks everyone

Been trying to draw 100 for years with no luck. Finally a couple of years ago used all my points for another area. At my age will probably never get to hunt there. Hunted antelope there and saw some great bulls about 15 years ago and wanted to get that tag!

Oh Im sorry I dont post all the time like you do. Just trying to state the fact its a great elk and people are idiots for thinking they know what the score is. But I see theres more idiots out there like yourself who know it all. I also would like to hear more of how a 350" bull gets 200" from width and main beams. 65" beams and 50" spread are extreme an that equals 180" so I guess unless your forgetting something else to go with that 200" rule of thumb.

My apology Jstady. That was meant for a different post on here that I wont mention as to not piss anybody else off. Too much Jack and too late at night. I rarely get on the Forum, just been a member for awhile I guess. Now the idiot thing... Come on.

I hunted Unit 100 this year with my wife and took a nice 7x7 bull. Couldn't get into the unit opening day or the day before because of snow, but ultimately we had a great time when it dried out. Only problem was there had been a lot of snow machine traffic out there before we could get in and the elk were hiding out the first few days. We didn't see the numbers of elk that you did, but it is a great unit for DIY hunting. Congratulations on taking a great bull. Hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.
