Didn't draw elk tag in Colorado this year. The unit I hunted last is not an over-the-counter unit anymore. Does anyone have any advice on any Colorado over-the-counter archery elk units? Would like to hunt wilderness area away from fourwheelers.

Look into a list of wilderness areas in the state and begin your research. You seem to know the type of hunt you want so start there. Decide how far from home you want to travel. The herds are huge and just about anywhere west of 25 you will find elk. Get out there and do some scouting this summer and find some areas that will hold them during the season. I would also focus on other areas in NF, as good areas do exist out of the reach of quads. I have a spot like this that I will give a go this year. Also I would stay away from the Flat Tops. You can go in there if you want but it is a very popular place and one of the highest outfitter concentrations in the state, IMO much better areas elsewhere to be. Good luck and if you decide on an area or unit I can tell you what I know about it just send me a pm.

81 has area where you can get away. 82 is only foot trails but extremely rugged don't think I'd want to pack one out of there without horses. I'll be doing 85 and 83.
