Ya, we are all junior members.
I like NV for thesimple reason I can get to a good unit and scout it a couple times without more than a few hours drive. WY would be right there as well for the same reason but it wasn't an option.
Nevada, because it has been good to me!
I voted Co but NM is the right answer. My hunting camp is on the border of NM and CO and it cost less to hunt in NM. This year I am drawing in both states.
I also hunt mule deer in Ne.
Sorry to say this poll doesn't make much sense.
Idaho and NM don't have points to begin with, so count those out for starters.
Honestly you need to build points in as many states as possible.
depending on the species, and how soon you want to hunt that species would determine where I'd apply.
I apply for as many States and hunts that I can afford to apply in and even the hunts I can't afford. You only live once.
Good post, I've been struggling on what states to apply in myself. I'm currently building points in AZ, WY and CO, and will try to draw every year in NM. I'm struggling with Utah, as it just doesnt seen possible to ever draw a tag in that state, regardless of unit. I'm mostly an archery hunter, and the number of tags available and the draw odds in even marginal units is so small, I'm not sure it's worth it. Even though the price to build points for elk is relatively cheap, if you won't ever be able to draw the tag, what's the point?
Zim- while your post was excellent, it was to depressing! Ha!
I play the points game in Colorado & Wyoming. Have them in both states.
I buy points in NV, ca, or, wy,co,ut,and az,
I just started venturing out on points game a few years ago. It costs to play but if you are a member of this forum, hunting is one of the biggest part of your lives and IMO it is well worth it.
Btw it's total BS that colorado won't let you apply with a credit card for sheep, goat, or moose. I called and they said the fees are too much for credit card companies to handle. I said "New Mexico" does it!
Had they accepted credit cards for moose/sheep/goat I'd have about 6 pts by now, but instead I have none.
Honestly if you have the money, this game becomes much easier for you, and aren't we always talking about NOT turning this sport into a rich man's game??
Many of us can afford to front $2k for 1 tag a year, but to front $20k to apply everywhere just isn't possible for many of us.
Not to mention states hanging onto our funds for 3 months...
