got back today. really tired. we got for bucks out of our group of 4. I scored 158". 1 small buck. Other 2 are pretty small/average 2x3's. 15" wide x 15"high or so. My buddy got the 158", i did get the assist though since I spotted it for him!!!! I will post pics once I get them downloaded.

Sounds like ya'll had a great hunt 'ilovethewest'. A 158"er is a great buck for that region - looking forward to some pictures.

well my buddy can be quite an annoying fella..........I looked at the deer, and kind of rough guessed it around 140-145........of course he calls and said he had it "professionally" scored at 158". I was skeptical, but he insisted. The next day he calls and said he was messing wit hme, and that it was exactly what I said it was, around 142". And then he got a good laugh, after I told most people it was 158". he needs a boot in the arse! LOL ! Attachment 4381Attachment 4382
we did tag out. The other one was exactly like my small 2x2. And then the last got shot an even smaller forkie. We were running out of time. Meat was excellent though. Next year we plan on being ALOT more picky!

2 of the guys never hunted mule deer before, and probably wont again! We put on some serious miles, and they simply were not up to it physically. I for one, LOVE strapping on the boots and getting to places most people never even consider. They were getting discouraged, so I shot my buck to give the group some confidence. he was 15" x 15" 2x2....well he had a small brow tine, so I call him a 2x3!
I had fun. I think the other guys enjoyed doing something different, but the ywere not ready for the kind of hunt I put them in. Their idea of hunting is walking 150 yards to a nice cozy treestand. They were not ready for the 2-3 mile hike just to get to the area to hunt.
Oh well........doesnt botehr me. I will be back next fall, hopefully with much bigger and better results! Regardless of horn size, soe far my deer has been good table fare. No complaints there.

Congrats! Sounds like you had fun. I just love to get out there away from everything & the crowds. We usually hike in several miles as well never hunted C. I've hunted B & D several times.

here is my buck from back in October. Not as big as my buddies, but it was fun. Didnt have much time to make a decision, and we were hunting during the bad wind storm that blew threw the region back in mid-october. A filled tag is a filled tag! Going to be much more choosey next fall!

Great buck! I'm new to the website and new to hunting out west. My dad and I finally took a hunting trip out west this past October. We have been talking about doing this for years and finally made it happen. We did decide to go with an outfitter to hunt antelope out of Casper, WY. It was a great experience and we both shot a buck and a doe. We learned alot in the time we were out there. I loved Wyoming and want to get back some day to hunt for both Mule deer and antelope, but I would like to do it on my own this time without an outfitter. I have a few questions. If I stop applying for preference points for a year or two will I then loose them? How does applying for a mule deer tag work? I see the state is split up into regions, but also units. Do you apply for a region or a unit? Depending on the answer to that can greatly change planning. Thanks. I've really enjoyed the website so far.
