Maybe to lucky
I found out on May 25th that I was lucky enough to draw a Nevada archery bull elk tag for area 072/074 this year and I am a happy camper. Then on May 30th I found out that I was lucky enough to draw an archery bull elk tag for Utah in the San Juan area. I am not able to hire guides so these hunts will be DIY hunts and I am thinking of turning one back in and only hunting one place this year. I was wondering what elk tag is harder to come by the Nevada tag that I had 6 preference points to get, or the Utah tag that i had 11 preference points to draw. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Wow, I hope you promptly went out and bought a lottery ticket... Looks like you had less than a 1% chance of drawing the San Juan tag, and your odds weren't much better for the Nevada tag.. You can give one to me, if you want.

Ya that's a tough one. Maybe it should come down to which area you can spend the most amount of time in scouting and preparing for the hunt.

Ya I'd go with the one closest to your home, do you can spend the most time there and be more successful!

I would drop the NV tag and go Utah. It is a harder tag to draw so go with that one. Then you have another bonus point for Elk in NV so you have a good chance of drawing next year.

Wow, congrats bowhuntn, two elk tags, you have the best nightmare on your hands!

I don't know much about the Nv tag but I would go with the Utah tag, I'm not sure what state you live in but the San Jaun area only issues 2 non-res Archery tags per year and usually takes 15 points to draw. San Jaun is the best archery unit in Utah with good public land access and 370+ potential. San Jaun is also known to hold alot of bulls.
Did a little research on the Nv tag, Also a great unit but the info from a reliable sorce states that bigger bulls get taken out of San Jaun then Nv, 72/74
Wish you the best of luck and a great hunt!

Well, the Nv tag seems like a tougher tag to get with those points you have and then you gotta consider the long wait until you can apply for elk again in Nv, but the bigger bulls one might think would be on that Utah hunt... I would go with the area you have dreamed of hunting the most... You're gut will steer you right!
