I have the chance to get a 24x50 spotting scope, is this big enough for the open country of wyoming? Here in Arkansas I have no need for one , most animals are within bow range where I hunt.

Most guys recommend 65mm or higher unless you plan on packing the scope into the high country. I currently have a minox md50; it is light and compact and I don't notice it in my pack. I'm in the market for a 80mm scope, just don't have the jack for the one I want yet.
Is it the little variable 12-24X50 Burris?
I had one that was actually pretty useable. After I got the ED50, I sold it to a friend that still uses it.
I think there is quite a bit of unit variation with that scope, so if you get a "cherry" one, they are actually pretty good, but the lemons not so much...
I have a 80mm and a 60mm. IMO the 80 is to big for packing. I prefer the 60mm for the pack and since that's what I do mostly I am very used to it. I think a 50mm would be fine since you won't use it much being out of state. If you get a good deal on it try it out. If it feels to small and you continue to hunt in the West upgrade to at least a 60mm
Thanks guys, I will give it a try since it is cheap. By the time I get back out west I should be able to get better gear.
