I've ran into elk on BLM land west of Riely, north side of HWY 20 before. Thats all sage and Juniper
In states like Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming that have numerous units with very limited entry archery hunting, there is some great sage/juniper elk hunting in certain units. Since Oregon has very few units with highly limited elk hunting, I think your search is gonna be kinda difficult in this state. Wagontire I realize has some good harvest stats, but I believe most of those elk are coming out of a very small area, and I believe mostly on private.
Well thank you both, I am going to do some research around the wagontire area just because it interests me.
There are always elk going into the alfalfa felids north of Christmas valley Wagontire Rd the problem is they move in and out of the fields in the dark but there is definitely trails from the high sage you can follow for a while. The elk are hard to find but they’re in there. Find the fields that are furthest to the north, BLM land borders those fields.
Thank you so much SAR, that will give me a starting point.
