Sitka or kuiu?

Also picked up a set for early season this year.

I purchased sitka gear and really like it so far. Its very comfortable and light weight. Also, the removable knee pads in my Mountain pants. were a big plus, while hunting antelope in wyoming. The ground was full of cactus!!!

I just got back from my first backcountry elk hunt (8 days) and I have the Russell APX and loved it worked great. My brother has Sitka and there was not a lot of difference.

Probably the best "new" piece of hunting clothing I have found in the past few years are the stretch fabric pants. The first one's I got were Arcteryx Gamma LT's. I used these on my solo back pack Wyoming sheep hunt in 2009. While packing my ram out, I got into some nasty blowdown timber I was crawling on, under and over, and those pants were amazing. I would have shredded normal pants.

My latest are the Kuiu Attack pants. The fabric is a bit more substantial and they come in camo. The fabric seems to be great at naturally repelling water, so much so that I haven't had to use rain pants yet, though I haven't been in a down pour. The only "problem" I have had, and I wouldn't really call it a problem, was that I tore the rear pocket out a bit after sliding down a rock slide on my butt for 200 yards on my wife's sheep hunt this year. Nothing would have survived that unscathed though. Those are going in for repairs. I like those so much I ordered two more pairs on their recent sale a few weeks ago.

for you sitka guys.... i havent tried it out yet but i have a hard time throwing that kind of cash down for something you know they are making mad profits on. are they worth it? compared to say russle and some of the cheaper brands, or is it a nike and coverse thing? ive been looking for a pair to try off ebay but still wanting to much cash from this tight wad. ha my pants no are the apx but they are the girls large size that were 50 bucks off. fit perfect. cammo is cammo. that sitka wool that much diff? serious question, ive looked into it but havent been talked into it just yet.

I'd never pay retail for it, but I seem to be able to get pretty darn good prices on Camofire, provided you don't have to have the newest camo pattern. The 90% line is really awesome. The pant is probably a little heavy for the majority of your September hunting, unless it was never getting above 65-70 or so. But they are very wind proof, and don't snag on much. And, they are extremely comfortable.
The base layers aren't worth the cost, just buy Smartwool or something equivilant, and save some coin.
The Stratus line is nice for more of the Eastern hunter, I'm not sure I'd ever wear it out West.
The rain gear is FOR REAL. Best rain gear I've ever owned, and I've had a few pretty nice sets of rain gear.

I don't like either one. I have a few pieces from both.

At the end of the day, their wet weather stuff isn't good enough for Alaska. And it's too synthetic and uncomfortable for hunting dryland cold weather for me.

I prefer wool for cold and dry or slightly damp.

Or real wet-weather gear like Helly Hanson or Grundens for Alaska's rain.

And I have mountaineering clothing for real high altitude exploits.
