Looks good. Hopefully I am still able to hunt when I get to be 70, great job.
Thanks to all. That was my fourth time in Colorado unit 67 this year. While driving home I think I know how a big buck took advantage me. He was near the lake with another buck and nine does and fawns. I had put him to bed the evening before season opened and just had that feeling, I would never see him again.Opening morning It was 9 degrees with 10mph wind and my vantage point was shaded. Finally I decided to walk the entire mountian, nothing, I never found the does. As luck has it, I stalked from a mile and a half on a single deer I thought was a buck, at 735yds I could see six deer and two were so huge they needed horns. I wouldn't shoot from that far so I got to a rock on a clift that I could take rest on and make a steady 550yd down hill shot, to see better I took off my glasses and forgot them .Not a buck to be found. Next day I went back, found the glasses and while driving by the lake there were the 9 doe so my best guess is the bucks were between the lake and the top. That is the only spot I didnt look, too obvious.
Still a nice buck to take home. Big bucks don't get big by being stupid. The only time they really lose their focus on staying alive is during the rut. Seen it lots around here in the apple orchards. During the rut they only have one thing on their minds, thats why lots of the units here in Colorado are closed before it starts.
That's a great buck. I also like to keep zone potential in mind year round, the bigguns never show until the rut. Never a bad idea to check out the herd while the bucks have their guard down.
Got the gross score and it was 180.5 which pleased me.
heckuva buck.
Was that Cali hunter in a tan 4wd Chevy?
No he was in one awesome elevated Jeep if I remember it was black, four of them with one license.
Thank you. We kept running into a group of 4 (w/ 1 license) in a tan chevy and lost track of them the last couple days of the season. I was hoping they left the area early because they found something good to shoot.
