You can probably do San Pedro on Ambergris Cay in Belize for 4k, but airfare could get you. (We usually plan on about 5k and bring some home. Once you get there you can have a blast doing snorkeling and fishing with some great seafood too. Conch and lobster! We do a week there, staying at Mata Rocks Resort. It is small and on the water, a little south of town, nice place that treats you right. We rent a golf cart for a week to get around and see the sights. If you get there ask about the Chicken Walk. Lots of fun...a big checker board on the floor that all the squares are numbered. The turn loose a chicken to walk around. You pick squares (for a buck or 2) kind of like roulette. When the chicken takes a crap, the number that gets dumped on wins!! The more you drink the more fun it gets. We are going back this February and are going to look at condos.
I do our traveling in the winter, gets us out of the cold weather. Its payback to my great wife of 48 years for my hunting trips. I have a great time, so its almost like double dipping for me.
Montana,
We went out of Galveston, Texas. Living here in Ok, it is cheaper to drive down there & board the ship. I heard the Florida ports are cheaper cruises though. Our vacation planner with carnival is Naheed Maige. Her phone number is 800-819-3902 ext. 82563.
If you got any questions let me know. Good Luck!
Money out of their pockets? Are you kidding I am an enlisted man.
I was never much for Hawaii, my in-laws have an ocean view apartment in Kuwai. I have never been invited to go there, not sure if it's a time share or not. Ohahu (the military Island to me is trailer parky). Guam is the same as Oahuh: Prostitutes in the streets, expensive crappy food, and drunken military people. Forgive me I can't spell in Hawaiian.
I was stationed in Sicily and Spain and lived on the beach both locations. Spain is wonderful if you want a nice summer vacation. Fishing sucks in the Mederterainian though. And it's not all that warm this time of year.
Australia is a 3 way split. You have the rednecks, the asians, and the cosmo gay dudes. 99% of Australians fit into one of those 3 catagories. Rednecks are called Bogens in Australia. The first groups is your Man from Snowy River and Crocodile Dundee type folks. The 2nd group is self explanitory they have a huge Asian influx going on. The 3rd group was to me the most shocking, they have the most ifemminate looking men I have ever seen here metrosexual capitol of the world.
We love Australia, we love the wildlife birds and kangaroos, all of it. We are at least 1200 miles south of a crocodile, and a couple hundred miles south of a python. 3 of Australians imported deer live within 200 miles of my house, lots of pigs and feral goats. I have even got to go a few times.
And one of them is nice enough to help me get certified to shoot f-class every weekend.
The people can be wonderful, especially if they are in the first 2 groups. Or they can be really assinine.
If you come now you'll be here for high summer. This weekend is supposed to be one of the hottest in Australian record. Going to be a lot of bushfires this year.
I've been in the Virgin Islands 14 times and various Bahama out islands 6-7 times; I will never go back to the Bahamas the time of year you're talking about-too much chance of cold fronts going through. We hit the Virgin Islands in Feb or March and hold off 'til May for Bahamas.
Great Guys... Thanks. Eberle, I just about pulled the trigger yesterday. This seems to be by far the best value way of doing the trip. I watched some youtube videos though and it seemed kind of crazy with all the people. Was it nuts or not too bad? What time of the year did you go?
Colorado Cowboy.. Thanks... I think it's a tad over budget and time, by just a day or 2. With little staying home the lady says 6 days max away from the turds :)
BB and sheephunter... These are on the list too. Sheephunter. Do you have some recommendations? Did you have some favorite spots?
Thanks everyone!!
edelweiss, just giving a hard time man. australia is on top of my list for where i want to go most. allways has been. just steer me to the area away from that 3rd group you were talking about... unless there is an open season;)
Montana,
It was not bad at all, we went the last week of April. You see everything from the young party crowd to elderly people (every walk of life). Their is alot of things to do, the size of the ship is amazing. We done the 5 day cruise to Progresso & Cozumel. The one I booked for this coming August is a 7 day. If you decide to go, make sure to do the shore excursions. My wife & I took the kids to swim with the dolphins & they loved it. A couple went with us that do not have children & they took a submarine tour. They were really impressed with it. There is shows everynight, comedy, magic & concerts ect. Of course there is a casino, shopping mall, arcade & bars all over the ship! We are not the gambling or drinking type & it didn't bother us. No one was disrespectful or out of line in any way. My wife & I did go to carryokie (however you spell that) bar. We laughed until we cried, not at just the singing. The dancing was pretty comical! The food is awesome, I'm still not sure how they can cook for that many people & it still be that good. If you got anymore questions let me know, good luck!
Montana,
Our favorites are St. John in the USVI and Cat Island in the Bahamas...I'll also say that we tend to stay at more remote places 'cause we just really want to unplug. When planning your amount of time away you need to remember that from where we live the logistics of travelling to Caribbean/Bahamas eats up a significant amount of time (when we first stared going to USVI it would takes us almost 3 days to get to our final destination). end me a PM if you want more details.
Eberle/Sheephunter.... Thanks guys. I'm going to run with this for a while but may hit you up in the next couple of weeks.
Greatly appreciated!!
