Do you guys call coyotes year round? We usually quit around Feb. and let them get into their mating season. They seem to be pretty thinned out or educated by then anyway. Just curious if there are that many coyotes out in NV, Ca?
That makes sense. I usually don't travel too far to call coyotes but I guess that's what it takes if you want to hunt later into the year. We are still struggling with mange out here, not sure how long it will take to run it's course but it's been here several years now. I'd say half the coyotes I killed this year had mange (at least 7 I can think of).
I haven't seen a dog with mange yet in Nv.
I haven't seen any in NV either, they are normally healthy running at extreme speeds!!!
That's good about the mange. If you can hit a coyote running at full speed you're doing pretty good. Doesn't get much more challenging than that in my opinion. It's like they know they are harder to hit if they run left/right instead of straight away.
I don't connect on them running very often, but it has happened. I need to do more calling, normally we are driving to a deer/elk/antelope scouting location and come across one or two or three......
We have never had a big problem with mange out here in CA until this year. I have shot four dogs in the last 4-5 months with mange.
Over the years, I've seen some mange on these dogs in southern California, not too bad. It's around, just depending on the area's. I hunt them year round when ever I get a chance, spring is the best time for population control. There is and always will be plenty of those scavenger's around.
