G&F will tell you there aren't any wolves in the Bighorn mtns. I beg to differ!

This is probably the 9th or 10th wolf track I've seen in the past two years along the eastern face of the Bighorns. This one was really fresh. I'm guessing I probably spooked him. Good sized track too. Cut several more the same day. Guessing it was the same wolf. older tracks. G&F says tracks are probably dog (lol) and if they are wolf its because on rare occasion ONE may pass through. What a joke. There wasn't any dog this size where I cut these tracks.

What a bunch of bull. I figured everyone knew they are in the Bighorns, but I even read in EHJ that there aren't any up there.

very well could be a wolf track, but i beg to differ on it being "really fresh". i can see where the track has melted out in numerous places, and i know that it is melted because the edges are rounded....a fresh track will not have uniformed and rounded holes around rocks and grass. same thing happens around large boulders when the snow melts around them, it is even and smooth, just like in your pic.

but either way....it looks like a big dog (wolf included) track, but nothing to reference it to. would not surprise me any if they are there, actually they should be there by now. I hunt in the Winds and we have a lot of dogs there, boy are they big and their tracks are gigantic, thats for sure! Nice pic., next time place somethin in the pic so we can all get a good idea of how big it is. good job with the pic, keep em comin if you have more.

Here is a reference. My hand is 3 3/4 inches wide accross the knuckles,middle finger is 4 inches long. I guessed the track to be fresh. Pic was taken at app. 10 am. It was snowing at 6 am sun came out app. 8am. So it could of been 4 hrs old..??

I personally saw a wolf in the bighorns in 2008. Big black and ugly! Have pics of tracks will post later. They are much bigger tracks than the ones in this post. I'm sure that there are several wolfs in the big horns since that's been 2 1/2 years ago.

Just a couple of days ago a black one was spotted and photographed just 6 miles south of Gillette.

Now this is a fresh track I watched the wolf make it! The fellows who's hand is in the pic is about 6'2" and 230. If that gives you and idea how big this track is.
