1st mule deer hunt
I am trying to throw together a muley hunt for 2011. does anyone have any input on what state and areas a person can possibly get a tag and not spend a boat load of green. i know i have missed the colorado and wyoming deadlines for the draw. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Probably not the cheapest tag out there but Idaho has lots of OTC tags and general areas ($154.75 hunt lic., $301.75 deer tag). If you did decide on Idaho I would apply for a good controlled hunt area (apply May 1- June 5) and if not successful pick up a general tag. Check out Eastmans MRS for ideas.

thanks Pronghorn73 i appreciate the advice.

Oregon is draw only for rifle mule deer. You must apply by May 15th. You can apply online thru the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife. License runs 140.50, controlled hunt application is 8.00 and a deer tag is 375.50 I do believe that General Bow Season tags can be bought otc.

I have more fun in Nebraska than anywhere, cost about $226. If that state is of intrest, let me know.

Xtreme, Nebraska is a state that I would be interested in trying for are you familiar with the system and areas

Do you bow hunt at all? Bunch of OTC archery options out there.

Oh yeah. Stick and string any time I can but used to being in a tree with ducks flying under me. It will be a big adjustment but I am game for some spot and stalk. I am currently good out to 60 with my Z7 but I would prob try to do a little more out to 70 and 80 to be prepared. Do you have areas you prefer when in Nebraska or is any western area as good as any other in the same region.

you missed the nv deadline... you might be able to put in for the 2nd draw but im not sure if you can if you didn't put in for the first draw... so it's worth a try...

I have hunted North Western Nebraska for Mulies both rifle and Archery. Archery is nice because the tag is good statewide. Another option is Arizona. The deadline is early June, lic. is roughly 150.00 and tags are ball park 350.00.
