Does any of you know the draw odds for the X7b and A zones are for non res deer? Also if I buy a bear tag is it good for all areas in Cali or do I have to buy a tag for a spacific zone I want to hunt? Thanx guys for any info.

How many preference points do you have?
A is OTC. Lowest point value awarded tag last year was 4 points. Probably a 25% chance with 4 points. Then with fewer than 4 points it was 1:63 odds. This is for both residents AND non-residents. Bear tags are universal for all areas open to bear hunting.
Unless you are going to hunt private land, or scout a lot, don't waist your points or money on X7b. There are better numbers, with better public land in X7a. I have hunted both, and would go to 7a 100 times over.
Odds and points needed, along with other good info. is on line now. I just read some of it, very easy to understand, better than most states! California did a good job this year catching up to the 21st century.

Thanx for the info!
I don't have any points. This is the first year trying for a draw in California
No points isn't a big deal in CA... when trying to draw the top hunts, 7 points is exactly the same as having zero. They both end up in the random pool with the same chances.
BSA - I dont apply for the premium hunts so I have zero points, but if I was trying to draw those tags I think this system is a joke. What good does it do to accumulate points when it has no effect on the outcome? Only in California! Oh, boy! I need to move outta here!
