Good to know - thanks! Never hunted 62, just heard info thru the grapevine.
My understanding is that a type 1 is a buck tag good for an entire unit (let's take 63 for example). A type 2 is a buck tag that is only good in a certain portion of said unit. Last year the Type 2...
Anything less than 6 points going in last year couldn't pull 61 on a points basis. You'd have to get lucky and draw one of the random tags. This is one of the most popular units in WY and the odds...
Do you know which one it would be? I did some looking last week and there was one (I think it was Muddy Mtn - forgotten since then dang it), but it didn't look to have a whole lot of territory...
Two of us will have a combined 3 points going into the draw this year. We would have liked to hunt 63 again, but the points aren't in our favor - especially if they cut back tags this year. With...
I just spoke to a Bio in the central WY Red Desert area, and he was anticipating tag quotas to be cut by 1/3 this year. Pray for moisture this spring to help the herds rebound from last year's...
So how do they work it on 2nd choices in WY? Do they take everyone that listed it as their first choice in order of preference points (7,6,5,4...) and only after 48 first choicers are gone go to 2nd...
If it helps you understand how popular 63-2 is, almost 200 tags went in 12 seconds during the leftover draw. The only reason the odds are shown as favorable is, as Hi Mtn put it, because 63-2 didn't...
63 is good, but if the situation is similar to what it was last year w/r/t water and habitat, 14" is where the goats are going to top out in 63. Sure there may be a few bigger, but low to mid 70s...
I'll second that. We hunted 63 and fished the Miracle Mile in the 3rd week of September last year. Some of the best fishing I've had in a long time!
I hunted 63 last year as well on a Type 2 tag with a brother-in-law. Lots of goats. In speaking to the game warden and biologist for the unit prior to the hunt, they both indicated with the drought...
+1 to what llp said. Antelope hunting isn't all that hard if you just want to shoot something. All things equal, I'd hunt earlier in the season to take advantage of the nicer weather. The only...
32-hour drive? Man, I think I'd fly and eat the costs. Gas is still going to cost you a pretty penny travelling that far, so if you flew, rented a truck, and stayed in a cheap hotel, you're going...
Be aware that there is a large landowner in Area 23 that does not allow hunting...and the elk know it. Once they start to feel pressure, guess where they go. I found this out talking to the...
My brother-in-law and I camped on the Miracle Mile and hunted last Thurs afternoon thru Sat. morning. Lots of 11-12" bucks running around. Both of our bucks ended up being right about 14" with only...
Thanks good to know...I love to fly fish and will plan on an combo antelope / fishing trip now!
Good hell...you drew WY 100 for elk this year and Missouri Breaks in MT for sheep a couple years back?? You need to take CC's advice and got buy some lotto tickets. You have the golden touch! Good...
If you bring your own water, you should be able to camp out on the BLM land for free. There's lots of it in the unit. Pick a spot and plop down for a few days!
I got on right at 8:00am and picked up two of the 63-2 tags for myself and a buddy. Checked to see if any were left about 7-8 minutes later out of curiosity, and they were gone.
I have a Sako (Tikka) .25-06 that I absolutely love for deer. I haven't tried it on antelope yet, but will do so this fall. It's a great rifle with almost no kick. I killed a whitetail last year...
So are you hunting 63 with a type 1 tag? Can you do that and pick up a type 2 tag as well? Not familliar with the limits on tags that one can have. I'd assumed just one antlered, but can you have...
Anyone been in Area 63 as of late? We didn't draw in the regular draws, so my bro-in-law and I grabbed one of the leftover 63-2 tags. After talking to the biologist (prior to the leftovers going on...
I spoke to the biologist out there before the application period, and he would have chose 115 over 74. Said a friend of his killed an 80" goat out there last year. Take it for what it's worth. He...
Nice one! How do they eat???
I put in for 74 with my bro-in-law as well. I would have had 5 points going in and was going to be a shoe-in with a friend, then my friend backed out. I decided that I didn't want to go alone this...
