Excited to see the new Trophy Taker smackdown FCC pro.
He may be talking about the antlerless draw. If so, the results we be available roughly July 10th. If not, the general draw results came out late last month.
Permission issues aside, the area around Monticello is a general season unit and the fields east and north of town are, for the most part, in CWMU units.
50 yards for deer and 55 for elk.
I hunt it every year (archery) although I have never hunted the rifle hunt. There are some decent bucks around, but you'll have to work for them! Usually by the time the rifle hunt rolls around...
Another vote for merino wool. I really like the First Lite system and I have also worn lightweight merino under synthetics.
I'm in the same boat looking for a new rangefinder for high country archery use. I have heard good things about the newLeupold withTBR mentioned above. I have also looked at the Nikon Riflehunter...
I just ordered one from S&S - should be here next week!
Take your pick. The west slope has a lot of great units that can be drawn from 0-2 points for archery. Do a little research - look at Google Earth and you will discover some areas that hold...
Three blade fixed.
OYOA
Meat Eater
Nock On
Eastmans
Pure Hunting (new)
Live2Hunt (Canadian show coming to OC soon)
Graylight is right. All your suggested units have the potential to produce nice deer - as many Colorado units do. Also, I hope you did not perceive my post as self-serving. I have received a lot...
Haisen. I've hunted 43 and 55 recently - simply put, the Gunnison Basin herds are struggling. Before the recent harsh winters, 43 was a great sleeper tag that was always undersubscribed, but still...
Utah is up in the air right now. The state is going to a smaller unit system like Colorado in an attempt to better manage its herds. Therefore, its hard to know what areas will be in what units and...
Thats a killer deal. Supposed to be a great pack. I have a friend who uses one and convinced me to try one out. Luckily I picked one up on close out from Kuiu. Excited to try it!
Congrats! That is a real pig of a buck.
Another vote for CO. Although I live in Utah, I'm only twenty miles from the Colorado border and have enjoyed what that great state has to offer as far as bowhunting opportunities.
It will happen just keep it up. Usually success comes once every ten encounters (or so it seems), so you're due! At least you are learning from each encounter.
I should have read this thread before I posted a question your picture thread. That's discouraging when you work so hard for a shot and that happens, but that is the nature of the game and most of...
Thanks for posting the pics - glad to hear you had a fun hunt. That is a tough unit that will test your will and fortitude. How close to you get to the buck in the pic?
I have a green Marmot primoloft jacket that I layer under my Sitka 90% if I need to.
That's close to what I take, except I wear my hunting clothes when not hiking in or changing locations. I usually take two extra pairs of socks and another pair of underwear. No matter what you do...
Hard to choose just one because they all have a lot to bring to the table. Love the Rinda post. However, since I'm a bowhunter I'd have to go with Nate.
I agree w/ BOHNTR completely. One thing I like to do in the early season is wear one set of lightweight clothes to hike in with or move camp in and another set to hunt in. My hunting clothes seem...
Wow, great looking pack. From the pics I would have sworn it was a CC. I may have to check one out. Thanks for sharing.
