Help a young hunter get started!

Looking for good easy draw area around Kaycee or Casper for my 12 year old son to hunt. Preferably a area with good numbers and average sized antelope bucks. This hunt would be the last week of October because that's when he would turn 12 and be legal to hunt. Hoping to make a memory for me and my son! Thanks

How far would you be willing to go from Casper?

I would like to take him muley hunting around kaycee area after we hunt antelope, but it wouldn't really matter to me if I had to drive awhile. I guess what ever it would take to get him to a decent spot I will already be traveling 1500 miles so what's a few more!

Check the MRS section in the Eastman's February edition next year. For a young guy who is trying to get his first antelope, pretty much any unit in Wyoming has great success (80%+). The two big things are public access, and if he can draw the tag. The MRS will help out a lot in sorting these two things out. Any of Eastmands "blue chip" or "green chip" units would be a great hunt for him. If you can afford it, applying in the "special" draw will increase his odds DRAMATICALLY of drawing a tag in most units. I think there is no better hunt for a boy than an antelope hunt, lots of action and opportunity. Good job dad and have an awesome time!

Thanks for the advise. I plan on and have in the past looked in the msr section of the magazine ,but I would like to have some first hand info on the area I take him to. We all know a area can look good on paper but could have several problems when you actually get there ( poor access, heavy pressure, etc.). I want this to be a special hunt for him not running around trying to figure out stuff on the fly. When your coming from 1600 hundred miles away it's easy too waste a lot of time and money when your hunting blind in a new area. Just hoping someone has hunted goats around the areas I listed I am willing to buy the special license but I don't know how that works with a youth license?

I took a ride yesterday in area 72 and saw quite a few antelope. A bunch of small groups with some nice bucks. A lot were on BLM land. During the week you will have it all to yourself

I hunted area 71 and 72 this year and 3 of us tagged out. It was a great opportunity hunt with the limited time we had. If you need more info on these let me know.
