Nikon fieldscope 50mm ED

Wonder what people thought about this spotting scope?

We have put our Nikon ED 50s to good use over the past couple of years. I think this is definitely the best compact spotter on the market right now. I have quite carrying my big spotters on my backpack hunts and switched over to the ED 50 on those hunts all together. Sometimes I miss the clarity and light gathering ability of the bigger spotter but I certainly don't miss the weight. I will say, that for elk this scope is the ticket but for some mule deer hunts you might still want to bring the bigger, heavier glass with you. I hope this helps to clarify.

I've used mine the last four years on back-packs hunts into CO wilderness areas. I've got no complaints at all.....compact, light weight, and good clarity. If I were going in with horses, my Swarovski scope would also go.....but for trips where you're looking to cut weight and not sacrifice quality, you can't beat the Nikon 50mm ED scope, IMO.

Why is it so hard to find ?? I can find it but usually stores don't carry it for some reason.

They are pretty hard to find, for some reason. I think the goobers that do the buying for the big box outfits think it is a silly product. I would just go to Nikon and order it direct from them. I think you can get it at: www.nikonhunting.com. Good luck finding one.

I have had my Nikon for a few years and it has been bulletproof. Gone on lots of hunts with it and my friend had it strapped to outside of his backpack when he fell 30 feet off a ridge and rolled down a hill. He is ok and the scope is fine. The only time I've wanted something else is when your glassing more than 4miles. At that distance you need really good light to get a good image. It hasn't really been an issue for me though.

I absolutely love my Nikon ED. It is in my pack regardless of when or where I am hunting. I my mind you won't find a clearer, or better built, compact spotter.

I personally pack my swarovski 80 mm ... I will cut weight somewhere else them little scopes just don't have the clarity or light gathering ability.... tried them on a mule deer hunt in Nevada.. wanted to throw the little spotter off a cliff.... just my two cents .. NIKON is a great product I just can't see very well through a 50 mm
