California Bear Hunting

I was looking as to maybe go on a Spring bear hunt. Is baiting bears legal in California? I am just curious on a good area to hunt as I have never hunted bears before.

No and neither is hunting bear in spring bear hunts. They start their season in October and go until 1700 Bears are killed or until dec 25.

right now the bear harvest is at 1102 and theres many places to go u can hunt with dogs or spot stalk also varmint calling can be very effective later in the season especially if it is a great acorn year they'll move lower from the mtns

Also the archery bear season starts in August at the same time as archery deer. That seems to be when I see the most bears but their fur looks pretty rough that time of year.
