I'd go with a .243 just for the ME at longer ranges. I'm sure a 22-250 or .223 would do the job though.
I'd use my T.C. Hunter 28 in. barrel in .243. I spits them out 300 fps. faster than my 22 in. barrel Mod. 70 .243. I can shoot an 80-85 gr. bullet as fast as my 22-250 with a 55 gr. . That's the only reason "I" would !

Earlier I posted of the three I would also choose .243 because of bullet weight, I agree with you Completely. It doesn't change the fact that I still love my swift😁. It shoots a 52gr at 3980 while my .243 shoots 3730 with a 58gr. Vmax. I also wouldn't want to take my swift hunting due to that heavy barrel. I have never seen a wild in person but they look huge!

I bought a Remington 700 22-250 for a ranch gun. The ranch gun is now my go to gun, the more I shoot it the better I like it. I have both regular 243 and wssm 243. The wssm shoot a 55gr at 4060m but and is very accurate but is also too loud for most of my use.
I am reloading my 22 with 52gr Hornady A-Max starting with 380 powder. The reason for calibers so close together is Colorado, the 243 is not legal for small game and the 222-250 is not legal for large game. I also have a heavy barrell 22-250 that needs a job. I can't shoot paper all the time.
I killed a bear spot and stalk with the wssm 243 but I won't try that again. My Browing 7mm will be the next weapon I carry on spot and stalk bear, with 168 berger I might add.
I would perfer the 7mm for wolf, just because I want to make sure to get his hide.

I have shot numerous deer and coyotes with my 22-250. I have never had to track anything that I shot with my 22-250. It is probably my favorite rifle that I own. I would recomend getting one.

The 22-250 is one fine small game burner............if you brew your own handloads it gets even better.

I built a 22-250 back in the 60's before it was even a factory round, great varmint caliber. It has it's limitations on larger animals and like all the lighter calibers is very wind sensitive. My brother now has it...wish I had never let him talk me out of it!!! I now have a custom .220 Ackley Improved Swift that I built. I shoot prairie dogs and coyotes with it. The only thing thing that I would be concerned about is I use a pretty light bullet (55 gr) and it does not really penetrate well because it is going so fast (4200" MV). Yotes don't run very far if they don't go down immediately, but a wolf is a lot larger. It also makes a pretty nasty hole, ruins lots of hide. If a wolf gets shot and runs away, so be it....I know it won't live and I've done what I started out to do. ELIMINATE one!
