    Montana Outwest Outfitters-Remi Warren

Well, I have been meaning to join this forum so I finally did it. Seems to be full of useful information. First off, does anyone know anything about Montana Outwest Outfitters with Remi Warren? I am going on an elk hunt with my dad there in a few weeks. Its too late now but I just thought I would see if anyone knows anything about him or the area. Thanks and I look forward to the forum!

Elk numbers are way down in the Bitterroot right now. In fact, they are talking about making most of the area limited next year. However, Remi has a great reputation for putting hunters on game, if they are willing to work for it.

Thanks Bitterroot! I'm hoping there is still a decent chance of us killing a couple? I also have a mule deer tag in Unit 240? Does anyone have any information about that area?

240 is mostly extremely rugged with low deer densities. There are areas with some good deer in 240. Your outfitter should have some leads. As you probably know, he tagged a whopper with his bow on the hard-to-draw side of the valley.

Chances of killing a legal (browtine) bull with a good guide are OK (I think total hunter success is around 15-20%, which isn't bad), but it is not known as a trophy area. A 280-300 bull is upper end. Total elk numbers are a fraction of 6-8 years ago.

I'm sure you will have a great time anyway!

Thanks again. Yeah I applied for unit 270 where Remi shot that huge mulie but of course I didn't draw. I have never killed an elk so while I am looking to get a nice one, I just simply want to get A bull. It will be a good trip for me and my dad no matter what, but Im hoping to bring something home considering we can both shoot a deer and an elk. I cant wait to go!

Bitterroot Valley, brings back lots of memories of my Grandfather, who was born in Stevensville. It was on my short list for my retirement home. My Great grandmother was a Metcalf, Lee Metcalf (former US Senator) was my Dad's cousin. My grandfather was raised by Ray Metcalf. Long time ago. Beautiful area and have visited it often, but my wife said too cold in the winters. So here we are in SW Colorado, not quite as cold, but still not southern California where we were born! Gramps used to roam the valley when he was a kid with his buddies, hunting & fishing. His Aunt called them the "Burnt Fork Savages". My G Grandmother, Harriet Metcalf Lawrence is in the Stevensville cemetary. Had to share that with you Bitterroot guys.
