Heppner unit.
Does anybody have any info on this unit? Good, bad, ugly? Thanks.

Supposed to be climbing populations. Gets hit hard during archery. My co worker hunts there and sees good bulls. Nothing huge just good ones
Thank you. This is my uncles backup back up spot if he doesn't pull a tag. We are making it a for sure thing next year. I wanted to see what people thought about it. And yes we are going there during archery season. I'm stoked!
I was just there last week and saw only a few. Going back again tomorrow for the last couple days of spike only tag.
I was there 2 years ago for a week and didnt see much then either
Made the trip back up there. Had fresh snow Saturday morning. No sign of elk anywhere.
No tracks. We talked to a lot of people that have been there for a while and they hadn't seen elk
In days. We did see A LOT of deer though. The elk just left the area. For next year I need to figure out
Where they go when they get pressure. I'm guessing down the breaks. Another year of tag soup for me.
What do you need to know I have hunted the Heppner unit since 97 .I think the unit is one of the best
There are decent numbers of elk in the unit, but not many mature bulls. Most of the bulls you will see there are spikes and raghorns. More than anything, you will see tons of other hunters. On opening weekend of archery season there are cars and trucks lined up at all the trailheads... good luck to you!
