If you want to get a point and go hunting some muzzle loader and bow hunts can be drawn as a 2nd choice
I have applied for 3rd season rifle mule deer for unit 75/751. Does anyone have any information about either of these units?
There is very little public land south of Hwy 160 toward Ignacio. Northeast of Durango & east of Vallecito Res is the Weminuche Wilderness area. It has good public access from public land. You never know what the weather will be like during 3rd season. If there is lots of snow the deer could have already left the high country. Get a San Juan Nat Forest mao and start looking for all the access roads and cgs. There is a lot of NF land and good access.
I live about 60 miles west of there.

Have you ever hunted it or been on it? What are the deer numbers like?
I'm from Utah and i wish i could say Utah is where you should come..... but thats only if you like sharing the mountain with a billion other people. I have hunted mullies up in Wyoming as well and I loved it! I would definitely say Colorado or Wyoming would be fantastic places for your first mullie hunt! Good Luck and get in shape!
We are fortunate to get many tags where I live. I had 4 does 100 yards from my back door tonight.
