    Last Day AZ Archery Buck

Here's an Arizona desert Mule deer I arrowed on the last day of the 2010 season (December 31st). Nothing huge, but a good mature deer for the last day. Hope you enjoy.

    BOHNTR,
Hey, that's a great buck. I would love to arrow a hard-antlered buck. Here in Utah, towards the last of the archery hunt, some of the bucks manage to rub off the velvet. Maybe someday I will get a chance at one. Thanks for the picture. Was this buck still ruttin around looking for does? If you have time, let's here the story.

The prime rut for Southern Arizona desert mule deer is the first two weeks of January. The Coues deer in this area rut the entire month of January, with the last two weeks being the best. This buck was with six does and a smaller 4x4 when I worked in on them. It's tough hunting, as the environment is open mesquite and cactus......but I was able to stalk in close and wait until he followed a doe into shooting range. Just being in the right place at the right time is all.....a lot of luck on my part.
