I believe the 270 win is the best all around cal there is. That said I think I would take a serious look at the 270, 7mm, and 300 WSM's if I was looking for a new gun. I think make and model is alot more personal preference then anything. I am pretty sold on controlled round feed rifles like the model 70 win.

Nothing wrong with the new Ruger Hawkeye sporter either. I know it's a bit heavier because of the laminate stock, but in their stainless laminate this year they are chambering the .280 Remington which is an awesome cartridge! 140 - 160 grain Accubonds or Partitions, and there isn't much you cannot hunt with that rifle! I'm really looking at getting one for me this year if the $$$ factor looks okay!

The standard Hawkeye with either the walnut or the synthetic stock weighs less, but I just like the looks, feel, and stability of the laminate.

+1. They are getting a little hard to find though. I'm amazed I picked one up for the price I did. I'm considering a VXIII 6X and a spiral fluting for the bolt to loose a little more weight. Light lighter lightest. I like them light.

I heard they're not making them anymore? Not sure if that's true, but I have noticed some places have stopped carrying them.

I would like to pick one up if that's the case.
