Wyoming Elk Area 19 Info?

My teen age son and I have put in for Wyoming elk area 19, type 1. We have 4 points each and the draw odds say we should draw. My son will be a senior in high school next year and I want to give him a good first elk hunt before he is off to college. I know access is a problem in this area. Does anyone have any advice on obtaining access to private property with a trespass fee? How much should I expect to pay for both of us? Unfortunately a guided hunt for both of us is out of my price range and not an option according to my wife.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have heard about Muddy Mountain as well as another walk in area. I have also heard that the elk gravitate to the private property once hunting season starts.

Yeah for the private land if you get on top of the mountain you can see down the other side to Lone Star ranch. You'll see hundreds of elk. The guy that owns it is bent on locking as much land as possible using some questionable methods and manuevers. Hopefully between now and next year the state doesnt go against the will of its citizens and do a land swap with the Texas oilman owned Lone Star, ruining a lot of acess in 19. I dont know of much elk habitat that isnt either already accessible or owned by Lone Star to consider a trespass. Regardless there is plenty of quality elk in the area but its fire and ice for getting on them.

I just saw about 200 head right outside of glenrock last week not that it does any good now but they were on public ground. They were right on the area 7 and 19 border but in the 19 side down on the flats

Keep in mind, the elk seen this time of year most likely will not be there during hunting season, when there is a lot less snow. As Tim said, most of the elk head for the un-pressured private land once the bullets start flying.

Just for clarification, do they head for private when the bullets fly or when the arrows come out? I'm thinking about trying 19 next year on a cow hunt during archery season just to get a feel for the area.
