unit 40 for elk?

anyone hunted unit 40 for elk in CO?? if so how was it, any big bulls, hows the public land? thanks for any help.

There are some giants in the unit, but it is mostly pivate. The last couple of years have been rough on the public (NF).

I have deer hunted there quite a bit. I have seen some big elk the biggest I have ever seen was around 370. However, I have gone a couple days at a time without seeing elk. There is a lot of private land. However, I think if you hunted for 6 days or so you would have a good chance at a 320-340 class bull, from what I have seen anyway.

Lots of private, if you pay the big money, you will have a good chance at a trophy at a private ranch. If you are DIY and are trying the public land, it would be very tough and you would not be alone trying to snipe a good bull crossing public. That is what I have found in researching the area.
