    Wyoming Area 118 of Elk?

I am seriously considering using my points to apply for and probably dray an area 118 bull elk tag in the special draw. I live in Cheyenne (still considered a non-resident though till this spring) and this seemed like an interesting area to hunt elk in. Also considering unit 7, but even in the special draw I think I only have a 40% chance.

Can anyone give me some insight into area 118 - terrain, access, number and size of bulls in the area?

    Thanks!

Access is marginal for pretty low numbers of elk in completely open terrain. Chances are not good for seeing a big bull. The public half of the area holds few elk. Because the area is open, most of the elk have been found by opening day. Then it's a rat race.

Thanks for the reply. That is what I was afraid of. Sort of striking out on finding a unit I can draw with 6 points that has good public land access and a decent number of elk. I am certainly not after a trophy and would be tickled with a good 5 or 6 point. Guess I need to keep researching.

You have a lot of options with 6 points. Look at some of the areas in the northern part of the state.
