My son drew wenaha youth spring bear tag. Any help out there on where to go? We have never been spring bear hunting.

Congrats on the tag!! We drew 3 snake river tags should be fun. YOu could float the grande ronde, it is about 30 miles of roadless area. That would be my first choice. if not you can access it from troy or north of elgin.

You might have to wait for some snow to melt but Spout Springs is in that unit just north and west of Elgin. Plenty of bears in the area. Good luck!

Congrats on drawing your tag. I'm not trying to take over your post, but...

I drew my tag for snake river as well this year! I have hunted this unit several years ago so I'm not asking where to hunt...but I do need advise on WHEN to hunt. I live in AZ and only have 10 days to dedicate to this hunt, so I'm trying to anticipate the snow melt. I was thinking around mid may. The last thing I want to do is to spend my bear hunt playing in the snow, or even worse not being able to get up the canyon.

    Thanks all!

Fingershooter, I was in the bear flats area last week for three days. I am leaving this Wednesday night to pack in the same area for 5 days. The canyons look good in this area as far as snow but we were only able to get about 6.5 to 7 miles up hat point rd. We wanted to get to another trail head but to much snow. There were not alot of bears out last week but with the weather we have had since i left last tuesday has been good and ofcourse the later in the season the better it will be. Goodluck
