    Sad News For North Idaho

The Grey wolf conquers another region in Idaho. I received an email sent out by the regional biologist. He reports as much as a 60% reduction in my elk hunting unit. Its sad to see, the panhandle supported the last otc cow hunting season in the state. Now there will be no otc cow harvest in the panhandle, or the state of Idaho.

Wow ya that sucks. I'm putting together a elk hunt and not sure on were to go. We hunt SE in Tex Creek but haven't hunted there in 4 years and was looking over the stats, it looks like the wolves are all over the state. I did like to see the NR wolf tag is under $100. So I thing were going to Try OTC Co.

To date we have harvested around 60 wolves in just the panhandle. Its worse than any of us ever thought. I started trapping this year and the wolves are everywhere! they spread like wildfire. The local boys up here are doing there best hunting and trapping im afraid we will never get ahead of the curve. Hunting in Idaho will never be the same.

I hope your talking about a 2012 wolf tag. Did you hear about the guy that thought his 2011 wolf tag was valid thru the close of season? To me it makes sense it would be as that is the way it works here in Oregon for hunts that run into the new calendar year but I guess for wolves in Idaho the tag is calendar year. You probably knew all that but figured it might be worth a mention just in case....

Is that the guy that shot that OR-9 wolf? I herd something about his tag wasn't valid. Figured that was what happened. Herd he got a warning. I dont think Idaho really cares at this point. I actually got to thinking about that last week if the tag was for the whole season or the year and had to go look at my tag and yes its expired. But i can still buy 2 tags for this year so I still got wolf tags available that need to be filled

That's the guy. A very honest mistake that would be easy to make since most tags are valid for the entire season. He's lucky the bambi hugging wolf lovers here in Oregon didn't have any say in it or he would be spending life in prison.

Good luck filling those tags! Got to get myself a couple more soon.....
