    Public access in region 7

I'm looking to do a Montana hunt in 2013. I hunt in NE wyoming every year so I was thinking of trying SE Montana. I was just curious what the public access was like in units 702, 704 and 705. I'll also be doing some more reading on the block managment areas. Any info would be great!

Look a little more into the block management areas. Some of those areas are huge and only allow a few people to hunt them at a time.

Hows does that work. Do I call the Regions block management coordinator then call the land owner contact that they give me or do they facilitate the whole getting your name on the list to hunt the area?

You have to call the fwp office and get the BMA packets that list all of the areas, how large they are, what game they hold, and what general area they are in. There are type I and type II areas. Type I you can hunt with out any contact with the land owner you just have to sign in at the sign in box daily. Type II you have to contact the land owner and get written permission from them. Some times reservations are required.

One stop shop for maps. Delores Montana atlas. Get one. Shows BLM, state and National forests. After you find an area you want to target, contact BLM office in Miles City for BLM map of exact area. It's kinda piece of mind to double check your location to be sure it is public land.

Below is the buck I took out of Custer National forest in 2011 and some of the views of the areas we hunted typical where we saw deer. We saw bucks every day and saw some big bucks that were too smart for us that got away. Mine was the smallest of the bucks taken in my party last year and I got it a couple miles off the access road. We had a fun time in Custer National forest last year.
