Just wondering how the winter was in the Bighorns this year? Last year we noticed a considerable drop in deer numbers due to the previous winter.

As an avid hunter and snowmobiler in the Bighorns I seem to preaty much live in the 'Horns year round. The snowmobile season was not real great this year. The snowpack was way down from an epic last year. Although the sledding was not that great I dont think the snow pack was all that low from average. We didnt get the big storms just 2-3 inch everyday. Watching the weather right now and Bald Mountain is supposed to get another 2 feet by sunday night.... Now I dont know if the deer population took a hit or not last year, but from what I saw during the 2011 season there where plenty of deer and some nice ones to boot. The 'Horns should be looking good for elk and deer next fall.
WYrider, thats good sounding news to me. Thanks for the update
It was about average this year. Last year was anything but average although it's coming down pretty good up there right now.

We always need it... but I'd be complaining if I hadn't already got my bear bait in.

Thanks for the info guys. Sounds like a pretty normal winter. I would assume the deer winter down below on the prairie?
