BB knows his stuff about optics. I also have a 338 in that exact gun. I have a burris fullfield 2 on it. I would probably go with the vortex IMO.

well bb i got the z600 zeiss, wow! the clearity is phenominal! so worth the extra dollars, dedd get what you pay for when it come to optics. im affraid to even look through a swarovski's. thanks for the advice!

I am glad it is working out for you. Make sure to chronograph your hunting load and input the data into Zeiss' ballistic calculator. Then, adjust the magnification ring to the calibrated setting, and field test your drops before you go hunting.

I put a sightron siii on my 300 wsm it is a good scope but heavy I was really impressed with it I wouldnt over look the bushnell elite series either i picked up a 3-9x50 from bass pro for around 450.00

For the $, I think Vortex has as good of quality optics as most of the mid to high end brands.They also have a lifetime, no questions asked warranty - run over it, drop it off a cliff, whatever happens, they will replace it with a new one.
