Nevada Archery Deer Hunt Unit 101-109 Ruby Mountains

I drew a Nevada deer tag for the first time this year. I'm from Utah so not too far. Just wondering if anyone would be willing to share some info with me about the unit. Any input would be helpful. Thanks.

Get to the farthest place from a road as you can, and there will be deer there. Way too many people hunting there so you just need to go as deep as you can.

X2! You will definitely need to hike a lot and deep into remote areas!

Cam Hanes took a great buck in that area. The big deer are there but you will have to work for it.

I drew the late season archery tag and don't really know what to expect. I hear it's great!

Hey thanks for all the info. Looking forward to the hunt and planning on working hard for it. Wouldn't be worth it if it wasn't hard.

I would look up the two EBJ article with Scott Faimen ( In think that's his name). He hunts the Rubies successfully and not always by backpack. It should give you a sense of the area. Also, the old Larry Jones video How to Hunt Open Country Mule Deer from Wilderness Sounds was in the Ruby Mtns. They too "car camped" and hiked in each day to hunt although they underplayed this in the video.

I haven't hunted the Rubies, but I have hunted in adjacent ranges. I found that hunting from the end of a jeep trail without an official "trailhead" designation can be good and avoid the crowds. Good luck!

Ive hunted it 7 times now. And ill be back in there this august. Biggest and best suggestion would be get high. Ive always found good bucks within glassing distance of the mtn goats. And focus on the manzanita. Where there is manzanita. There is usually water. And usually bucks. That stuff is so tall up there they will bed down in it. Several times i have thrown rocks off a cliff into a thick patch and deer blow out like rabbits.
