    New deer and antelope gun.

Picked me up a Savage long range hunter in a 6.5-284. Topped it with a Vortex Viper 6.5-20x50.

Sounds awesome! Now you will just have to post some pictures of some deer and antelope you harvest with it!

Sounds like a flat shooting combo for deer and antelope and maybe a wolf or two...

Sounds like a nice combo! My son-in-law has the LRH in .300WM and it is a great shooter. I built a couple of 6.5X.284 rifles, one on a Savage action and one on a Ruger #1. Both had Broughton 5C 8 twist barrels and liked any bullet in the 130-142 grain range, for powders I had good results with IMR4350, H4831sc and Reloader22, Lapua brass worked best for me. The three most accurate bullets were the Berger 140 VLD hunting, the Nosler 140 Partition and the 130 Accubond. I had good results with Winchester WLR and Federal GM210M primers. I don't know the twist rate on the Savage but the components listed should give you a good start.
Looking forward to the range reports!

    That'll do....

I just got my 6.5mm Super LR last week and have been busy with load testing. I have no data for you other than to offer some powder recommendations I've came across while searching for data of my own. H4350, H4831sc, H1000, R17 would be a good place to start. I'd start with h4350 and h4831sc first, personally. I can't imagine the 6.5-284 would use a lot different powders than say a 260, could be wrong though. That extra case capacity could change things I guess.

As for bullets, I'm currently playing with the 140 Berger Hybrids. I also have 130 Hunting VLDs on hand to dabble with too. The Hybrids look good thus far.

    Gotta love the 6.5s!!!!

not a bad choice at all!

keep it fair, no shots under 400yds with that rig! haha.

may even qualify as an elk rig with those high SD 6.5mm bullets! polar bears have been killed with 6.5's!

my antelope rig is a .243win btw... not sure it's my deer rig though...

Good choices. What bullets are you thinking of using?
