Unit 43 Colorado

Recently got a muzzleloader tag for this unit and am starting the process of planning to head out in September (nothing like doing things last minute). Am new to the forum but have read a decent chunk of posts and seen some of the suggestions for high country hunts, etc... which seem very helpful. Biggest thing for me is I've never hunted that high up and am just curious of what to expect. Have Eastman's high country book on the way but was curious to get any other advice some members here were willing to pass on. If anyone has ever specifically hunted the unit and would rather message information directly rather than post it, that would be great too and obviously kept confidential. Any help is appreciated, thank you in advance.

I've hunted that area for 4 years in a row, I would of done it this year but it didn't work out. You won't find any mountains with mule deer that are bigger, steeper or taller than those in 43. Be prepared, most trail heads start at 10,000 ft., take a day and get acclimated at that elevation before you start your hike. It's nearly all wilderness, very few places to day hunt from the truck. Stick with 43, there are deer in 47, 471, but not as many. Pm me if you would like some specifics. Here's the best buck I've taken from 43, same one thats on my avatar. seen many that were bigger.

That right there is why love to hunt! The stakes are all the same, and everybody has an "opportunity" to bag a buck like that. Beautiful specimen.

Never been in that unit but Conondrum creek and Conondrum hot springs would be a great place to take a break and nice soak! It is close to Copper pass and Triangle pass which gives you access to great glassing areas into about 4 basins.
