That's public land hunting when it's easy to get to. Something I always avoid. I'm not surprised by what happened to you.

What's even worse is fly fishing the Arkansas River during the caddis hatch.

I had a trail camera set up on an Elk wallow and a guy hangs a treestand right above it. My camera had been in there for 2 months and a week before season he hangs it and messes with my camera. First come first serve. It all comes down to respecting each other.

It should be 1st come 1st serve, public land is everybodies but if somebody is in the spot before you, time to move on down. Those are some ignorant people to set a blind up next to yours. And disrespectful.

Im a firm beleiver in first come first serve, I have been on both ends of the situation. If someone is in the spot I wanted to hunt I alwyas move on! I was waterfowl hunting a few years back and had a some guys set up 30yds from me and every time I pulled the jerk cord on my decoys their dog busted from cover and tried to retreive my decoys, it was so frustrating it was almost funny!

Like Colorado Cowboy, my brother & I have had similar experiences while waterfowl hunting, most of the time its been pretty mellow with either them moving on or if we were the late ones we would move on. We have only had one time where they thought it was ok to set up with 60 yards of our set up. We were both young, I was 17 he was 15. We thought "well we will give it a try and see if they are smart about it" well needless to say when they sprayed us with BB's my 15 year old brother ran off a couple of grown men in a hurry! He was up out the blind yelling before I even knew what happened.

After the dust settles though, It is public land and you are going to have people who aren't running on all 8 cylinders when it comes to being respectful. I've learned that its typically the guys that spend 3 or 4 days a year in the field. They go opening weekend and then don't give it another thought until opening weekend the next year but call themselves hunters. I think its just something we all have to learn to deal with.

Never hunted a waterhole in my life and have never not filled an antelope buck or doe tag for that matter. I just got back from what I'll call a once in a lifetime antelope hunt in Ca.. I met an 85 yr old rancher that had 3000 acres down to 800. I had more fun talking to him tfoe 3 days than hunting. He had a pond, a creek and a big pond ( can't spell resivoure) . I could of killed the same buck opening morning. Came back and killed him in the afternoon. had nothing to do with water. 13 bucks in Wy. and 1 in Az. also had nothing to do with water. Sitting water for antelope is an archery thing because you have to be one bad ass to stalk them with a bow. I know, I tried in 1983. Leaned right off. Water, highly over rated. Like baiting...

I know this isn't a waterfowl hunting site, but I've got a funny (and really stupid) one. My Dad had leased 200 acres in Imperial Valley in Ca that turned out to be one of the best goose fields near the Salton Sea. A friend of mine and I went down and spent 1/2 the night setting up decoys and building our blind. Come daylight, 2 guys started sneaking/crawling up to the decoys that were 250/300 yards from the fence line, which by the way was posted with No Trespassing signs. When they got close enough to hear us we jumped up and started yelling at them. Needless to say thay took off running and got in their truck and sped away. Sure would like to heard their conversation!

I have dealt with this stuff on public land for 15 years...I always go somewhere else if someone is in the hole I wanted to go...or even close to it..I will just go somewhere else...Now...if there is one gate that leads to a large area..I always talked with the other guys..I'd tell em..gimme I general direction you are goin,and I will be out of your way..because I have all the areas scouted out anyways...If they werent going where I was..fine..if we were gonna be close I would make sure I idnt interrupt them..no walking past them..etc..unless they insisted...There is no sense in setting up on a man at a water hole..Thats just down right rude..If you beat me thats fine,but dont come in on me...

I would love to hear someone explain why it is ok to just waltz right in on a guy and set up right on top of him..To see what the excuse is..It's usually ignorance..totally

You dont own all rights to a spot just because you have hunted it before...if you beat someone to the hole..its yours,but if they are ahead of you..first come first serve..I see some places say..if you leave a stand or blind..it is first come first served...lol..Id love to video that encounter..lol

Dont be a jack just because you can,you never know what someone else has going on in their life,and you may wind up being the straw that breaks the camels back.....ETHICS...its what the new generation doesnt understand...and how to act civilized..
